Shopee and Lazada in Vietnam: Address, Payment, Delivery and Returns

Shopee and Lazada can help you find kitchen containers, a cable or a shelf for a new apartment. The harder part is checking what the lowest price includes, entering a usable address and returning a different model. Start with a simple item, one seller and delivery to somewhere you already live. Before paying, check how you could receive a refund: paying cash at the door does not mean the courier will later hand your money back. This guide follows a purchase from account setup through unpacking and an order claim.

Your first order: one item, one seller, a clear address

Choose an inexpensive item with clear specifications, such as a container whose dimensions you know. Electronics add compatibility, warranty and function checks; furniture adds size, assembly and access to your apartment. If you need something tomorrow or want to try it on, consider physical shops in our shopping guide. Order online when you have time to receive the parcel and send it back if necessary before moving.

1. Set up your account, phone number and language

Open Shopee Vietnam or Lazada Vietnam through the official website and its app links. Check that you have selected the Vietnamese marketplace: another country’s catalogue, delivery and terms do not describe your order in Nha Trang or Da Nang. Use your own account so you can access order history, messages and a return claim later.

Shopee’s registration guide specifies a valid phone number in Vietnam and code verification for Shopee registration. Your own local number that can receive calls is useful for delivery; a data-only SIM does not itself provide that. Do not enter an arbitrary hotel number. If reception helps by ordering through its own account, agree who will answer the courier and submit a claim if something goes wrong. Login codes stay with the account owner.

English menus and Vietnamese product descriptions

Shopee Vietnam supports Vietnamese and English. Shopee’s language guide shows the route: Tôi → the settings cog → Ngôn ngữ → English → Hoàn thành. On Lazada, check language in account settings; the website has a THAY ĐỔI NGÔN NGỮ switch. Changing interface language does not guarantee translation of seller text.

Translate descriptions and specifications separately, keeping original model names. Useful terms include kích thước — dimensions, số lượng — quantity, màu sắc — colour, bộ — set, and cái — individual item. An exact model name or Vietnamese product term can be more useful than a broad search. For hộp đựng thực phẩm — a food container — check capacity and dimensions rather than relying on the picture.

2. Save an address where parcels can actually be received

Ask your landlord or reception for the current Vietnamese address: house number, street, administrative units and building name. In Shopee, open Tôi → settings → Địa chỉ. Recipient name and phone are for contact; put the house, street, tower and apartment in the detailed address line. In Lazada, use your account address book, then check the address again at checkout. A beach name or “near the café” cannot replace a postal address.

Administrative names may differ from an old map listing or rental advert. Shopee’s address guide describes Shopee’s address update following the reform and advises users to check even automatically updated entries. Match the app’s available fields to your building’s current address. If it shows an old district and ward, confirm the mapping with your landlord and support rather than selecting a similar name at random.

Entrance, tower and condominium rules

If the form offers a map pin, check that it leads to the correct entrance. A pin does not replace the text address fields, and a courier note cannot fix the wrong administrative area. For a building with several towers, specify the tower and lobby; security may not allow couriers to your apartment door.

Before ordering, ask whether reception accepts parcels and whether it can accept a cash-on-delivery order. These are separate arrangements. A prepaid purchase still needs agreement about receiving and storage. If you are moving soon, compare your checkout date with the delivery range and the time you need to inspect the item.

3. Compare the selected variation, not the starting price

One listing may offer small and large capacities, a single item and a set, or a device and a separate accessory. The search price may belong to the cheapest variation. Open the model you need, select size, colour and quantity, then check the updated price. Verify measurement units and the list of contents.

An illustrative example: the photo shows three containers, but the selected variation says “1 cái”. Check whether you are buying one or a set. Save the selected option and the seller’s answer in the app chat. For a cable, compare connectors, length and supported functions; for a shelf, check width, depth and load capacity. Similar pictures do not prove matching specifications.

Shop, reviews and warranty

Look at the seller name, shop information, recent reviews with photos and repeated complaints about contents or packaging. Reviews help most when they concern your model and variation. A Mall badge is another criterion: LazMall describes its branded-product programme, but the badge does not decide whether the size fits, the item is compatible or a return will be convenient.

For expensive electronics, look for clear local warranty arrangements and seller documents. Ask who handles a faulty item and what you must provide. Manufacturer warranty, seller return and a platform dispute are separate processes. Do not extend one shop’s terms to all Shopee or Lazada products.

Dispatch location and when you need the item

Check dispatch location, overseas or preorder labels, and the delivery estimate for your address. An overseas purchase and a product held in Vietnam may have different timings and terms. A local warehouse still does not mean next-day delivery. If you need the item before moving or flying out, allow a buffer and have a local purchase option.

4. Check the total and payment method

A basket from several shops may produce several orders and parcels. Check each checkout block: seller, product variation, quantity, delivery and total. Seller and shipping vouchers can have different conditions; free shipping does not automatically cover the entire catalogue. Check which voucher has actually been applied rather than merely saved to your account.

The calculation below is a fictional single-parcel example, not Shopee or Lazada pricing. Include any paid option added to your order in its total too. Compare the platforms using the same model and amount payable, rather than the percentage next to a crossed-out price.

Cash and card

Thanh toán khi nhận hàng / Cash on Delivery (COD) means paying when the parcel arrives. Choose it only when available for your order and you or an agreed recipient can pay. For online payment, use a method shown at checkout. Shopee’s card-payment guide explains that card payment may be unavailable for a product or rejected by the system; a card-network logo does not guarantee acceptance of a particular foreign card. Check Lazada’s available methods in your own order too.

If a card is declined, check the order status and bank transaction first. Do not create duplicate orders until you understand which one has been paid. Enter card details and verification codes only in the normal payment flow, not in a seller message. A transfer to a personal account outside the platform is not the same as paying the app order.

Check how you would receive a refund first

Shopee’s return policy requires an eligible linked refund channel, such as a bank account or qualifying e-wallet, before a claim following COD or bank-transfer payment. Without it, you cannot submit that claim. If you lack a local account, settle this before an expensive purchase: being able to pay cash does not solve a refund. For Lazada, check the refund methods available to your account in advance.

Our guide to living without a local account covers everyday tasks without a local account. Do not choose instalments or pay-later merely because a regular card failed: those methods carry separate terms and obligations. For your first order, choose a method that lets you pay and complete a possible refund.

5. Receive the parcel that belongs to your order

After checkout, open the order and confirm it exists, the address is correct and the payment status matches your selected method. Save the order number and track each parcel separately if there are several. An estimated date does not assign an exact meeting time. Keep the recipient number reachable and check messages during delivery days.

You can message the courier: “Please meet me at the main lobby of [building name]. I will come downstairs.” In Vietnamese: “Vui lòng giao tại sảnh chính của [tên tòa nhà]. Tôi sẽ xuống nhận.” Replace the brackets with the building name. The message clarifies the meeting point; it does not guarantee the courier can wait or hand the parcel to security.

Before paying COD, compare the seller or sender, tracking number and amount with the order in your app. Do not pay for an unrecognised parcel. If a prepaid order arrives with a demand for item payment, stop and check its status through the platform. If it says delivered but you have nothing, check the agreed reception desk first, then promptly contact support through that order.

6. Inspect the purchase and keep evidence

Photograph damaged outer packaging and the label if there is a visible problem at handover. At home, a continuous unpacking video can show the closed box, shipping label, contents, accessories and defect. Evidence helps explain the issue but does not guarantee a decision in your favour. Send a label containing your address and phone through the relevant claim, not a public review.

Keep the box, inserts, accessories and documents until you have checked the purchase. Compare it with the selected variation, rather than the listing’s general photograph. Do not confirm receipt in advance or leave a rating in place of a claim: a review does not initiate a return.

Inspection with a courier has limits

Shopee’s Đồng kiểm inspection applies to eligible orders; check the terms and designation in the programme FAQ. the inspection guide allows checks of appearance and quantity, but excludes trying items on, plugging them in or breaking separate protective seals. Do not turn handover into a device test. For Lazada, establish what inspection your delivery allows rather than applying Shopee’s rules.

7. Start a return through the order

Distinguish a faulty or wrong item from one you no longer want. Shopee limits change-of-mind returns as explained in Shopee’s deadline guide; a new account should not assume an unconditional entitlement. Check the deadline, permitted reason and required condition before paying and again when a problem arises. On Lazada, use the terms for your listing and order: a general returns promotion does not make every item returnable for any reason.

Shopee’s deadline guide lists a 15-day claim period for ordinary Shopee orders, counted from the delivered status update. Fresh and frozen products have a much shorter period, and seller-arranged delivery uses a different starting point. This is a submission window, not a promise to approve every claim. Check your purchase’s restrictions and do not wait until the deadline.

Shopee: claim, return shipment and refund

Shopee’s return guide starts with Tôi → Chờ giao hàng / Đã giao → the order → Trả hàng/Hoàn tiền. Select the item, actual problem and offered resolution; attach photos or video and submit. Check that the claim appears in your account. A seller promise in chat does not replace a claim or pause its deadline.

If you must send the item back, use the address, handover method and deadline in the claim. Shopee’s return-shipping guide describes courier collection, an offered drop-off branch and self-arranged shipment; availability and costs differ. Do not use an arbitrary address from chat. Pack every required part and retain the handover confirmation and tracking number.

An accepted claim, a returned box and money in your account are separate states. Shopee’s refund guide lists 7–14 working days for a credit or debit card after refund approval, depending on the bank. That clock does not start when you tap the return button. Check your method’s channel, amount and status in the order; contact support with the claim number if the stated time has passed.

Lazada: Return/Refund and available handover options

Lazada’s return guide uses Account → View All Orders → the purchase → Return/Refund. Select the item and reason, check refund amount and method, and attach evidence. Pickup or drop-off options depend on the location and seller. Follow the claim’s packing and labelling instructions and keep handover confirmation.

Start the return when you discover the issue rather than waiting for the final day. If the necessary action is unavailable, contact support through the order or Lazada’s help centre. Track item assessment and the money refund separately; do not expect payment that same day. Keep account and phone access until it is resolved, particularly when leaving Vietnam.

Before tapping “Place order”

  1. Vietnam marketplace selected; the account and number belong to you or an agreed helper.
  2. Current address, tower and apartment entered; the recipient can accept the parcel.
  3. Model, dimensions, colour, quantity and contents checked for the selected variation.
  4. Delivery range fits your stay, with a buffer for preorders and overseas items.
  5. The full amount, shipping and actually applied vouchers are visible before payment.
  6. Return reason, deadline and refund channel are understood, including for COD.
