Сначала зафиксируйте даты, города, rural/urban plan, chronic conditions, pregnancy/children, medicine list and insurance terms. Затем решайте vaccines, prescription supply, mosquito protection and emergency plan.

8 недель Подходящий срок для travel health appointment, vaccines, chronic medicine and insurance review.
1 месяц CDC советует visit your doctor at least a month before trip for vaccines or medicines.
Carry-on meds, original package, prescriptions, insurance card and emergency contacts.

GOV.UK пишет, что at least 8 weeks before the trip travelers should check vaccine recommendations and health risks for Vietnam GOV.UK Vietnam health advice. NaTHNaC recommends arranging a health professional appointment ideally 4-6 weeks before travel, and earlier for pre-existing health problems NaTHNaC Vietnam travel health guide.

CDC Vietnam traveler page advises checking vaccines and medicines and visiting a doctor at least a month before the trip CDC Vietnam traveler health page.

До поездки нужно закрыть четыре блока: medical consultation, insurance/evacuation, medicine supply and on-trip decision plan.

Travel.State.Gov, Vietnam does not list required vaccinations in its quick facts U.S. State Department Vietnam information. Это не значит “прививки не нужны”: entry requirement and health recommendation are different things. For personal health, CDC and travel medicine sources look at route, season, medical history and activities.

CDC Vietnam says travelers should be up to date on routine vaccines and lists routine examples such as MMR, flu, polio, chickenpox and tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis categories CDC Vietnam traveler health page. CDC Yellow Book Vietnam also emphasizes routine vaccines and says travelers should protect themselves with hepatitis A and typhoid vaccination; hepatitis B is advised especially for long-term travelers and expatriates CDC Yellow Book Vietnam.

Japanese encephalitis, rabies and malaria prevention are not “for everyone by default”. They depend on rural stay, season, animal contact, outdoor nights, trekking, children, long stay and access to care. Bring your actual itinerary to the doctor: Hanoi/Da Nang resort weekend is not the same as Mekong Delta homestay, Ha Giang motorbike loop or rural volunteer work.

Insurance and evacuation: what to decide before payment

Before buying policy, check medical limit, outpatient care, hospitalization, emergency dental, dengue/fever care, motorbike/scooter exclusions, sports, pregnancy, pre-existing conditions, deductible, reimbursement documents, direct billing and medical evacuation. The insurance article explains the policy questions in detail: материале о выборе медицинской страховки.

Travel.State.Gov says the U.S. government does not pay medical bills abroad, many places require payment or deposit before service, and air ambulance evacuation can cost from $20,000 to $200,000 depending on location and condition U.S. State Department medicine and health guidance. Its Vietnam page also recommends medical evacuation insurance and notes that serious problems may require evacuation to other cities in the region U.S. State Department Vietnam information.

Save insurer assistance phone, WhatsApp/email if available, policy number, claim deadline, guarantee/direct billing rules and documents required after clinic visit. If the insurer requires pre-approval before non-emergency care, write that rule into your phone note.

Prescription medicines and controlled categories

Pack prescription medicines in carry-on, not checked luggage. CDC Yellow Book advises original labeled containers, carry-on storage and awareness of destination and transit country medication laws CDC Yellow Book medication travel tips. State Department guidance adds doctor letter, generic names, copies of prescriptions and enough medicine for the trip plus a few days for delays U.S. State Department medicine and health guidance.

For Vietnam, controlled categories matter. Vietnam Embassy in Australia says medicine labels should show drug name, active ingredients, concentration/content and expiry date, with prescription containing patient name/age, drug name, strength, quantity/days, dosage and physician details Vietnam Embassy in Australia medication guidance. It also describes 7-day and 10-day rules for narcotic and psychotropic/precursor medicines and a customs declaration route for longer need Vietnam Embassy in Australia medication guidance.

For Russian-speaking travelers, watch sleeping pills, sedatives, antidepressants, ADHD medicines, opioid painkillers, cannabis products, injectable medicines and chronic drugs. Brand names from Russia/CIS may not match local names. Write active ingredient and generic name; the pharmacy article explains how to search equivalents: материале про аптеки и лекарства.

Travel health kit: что положить

CDC Pack Smart lists practical categories: health insurance documents, list of hospitals/clinics, medicines such as antacid, antihistamine, motion sickness medicine, pain/fever medicine, prescriptions in original bottle, and supplies such as first-aid kit, contact lens solution, hand sanitizer, masks, insect repellent with DEET or picaridin, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen SPF 15+ and water purification tablets/filter CDC Pack Smart.

For Vietnam, practical additions are oral rehydration salts, thermometer, blister plasters, antiseptic, bandage, mosquito repellent, sunscreen, spare glasses/lenses, personal prescription meds, child fever plan if traveling with kids, and a printed allergy/medical condition note. Do not pack antibiotics “just in case” unless prescribed for your case and route.

Keep sensitive medicines with temperature limits in a separate plan: cold chain, hotel fridge, transit time, backup supply and clinic contact. If a medicine is essential and hard to replace, identify one clinic or hospital pharmacy in the first city before departure.

Mosquitoes, food, water and heat

CDC Vietnam highlights dengue as a year-round risk in many parts of the world and advises preventing mosquito bites CDC Vietnam traveler health page. GOV.UK also points travelers to mosquito-borne risks including Zika, dengue, malaria and Japanese encephalitis for Vietnam GOV.UK Vietnam health advice. The practical plan is repellent, long sleeves when needed, room screens/AC, and extra caution around dawn/dusk and rainy season.

CDC Yellow Book Vietnam says tap water is unsafe to drink and ice may be unsafe because it is often made from tap water; it also advises avoiding raw or undercooked meat/seafood, uncooked vegetables and raw fruits you cannot peel yourself CDC Yellow Book Vietnam. This is why ORS, hand hygiene and safe food decisions matter more than carrying many “strong” stomach pills.

Heat and dehydration are common practical risks: plan water, shade, electrolytes, sun protection and lower activity load on arrival. If fever appears after mosquito exposure, do not self-diagnose as flu only; use doctor route, especially with rash, bleeding, severe headache, repeated vomiting, dehydration or worsening.

Clinic plan before departure

Before leaving, save two types of contacts: emergency route and non-emergency clinic route. CDC advises carrying a list of local doctors and hospitals, reviewing insurance coverage and carrying a card in local language with blood type, chronic conditions, serious allergies and generic names of medicines CDC Vietnam traveler health page.

Choose at least one private clinic or hospital in your first city and one in the city where you will stay longest. For Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Nha Trang or Phu Quoc, check appointment channel, emergency department, English-speaking doctor, insurance desk and payment methods. How to evaluate private clinic cost and documents is covered in

If something happens, do not start by asking a pharmacy to diagnose serious symptoms. Use the action flow in алгоритме, если понадобился врач: emergency symptoms, insurance assistance, documents, payment proof, medical report and follow-up.

Final 48 hours

Move medicines from checked baggage to carry-on, keep original packaging, prescription copies, doctor letter, insurance card, policy PDF, emergency contacts and clinic list offline. Take photos of medicine boxes and prescriptions, but do not rely only on photos for customs or pharmacy matching.

For children, print weight in kg, allergy list, fever medicine dosing plan from your pediatrician and emergency contacts. For chronic disease, carry diagnosis summary, recent tests if relevant, device supplies and backup batteries/chargers. For asthma/allergy, keep inhaler/epinephrine plan within reach.

If you changed itinerary to trekking, remote islands, animal exposure, diving, motorbike route or long rural stay, adjust medical plan before departure. A resort stay and remote route have different risk profile.
